Murano
In the last seven years, Angela Hartnett has emerged as one of Britain’s most successful and best-loved chefs.
After launching Gordon Ramsay’s Amaryllis in Scotland in 2001, Hartnett turned her attention to the launch of Verre in Dubai. She returned to England to open M E N U and The Grill Room at The Connaught. Hartnett went from strength to strength and in January 2004 she was awarded her first Michelin star.
In May 2004 Hartnett won a legion of new fans appearing alongside her mentor Gordon Ramsay in ITV’s highly successful series ‘Hell’s Kitchen’. She returned to our screens in early 2006 when she appeared in ‘The Great British Menu’ on BBC2 alongside chefs including Marcus Wareing and Michael Caines.
2007 proved to be another busy year for Angela Hartnett and in January she was awarded an MBE for her service to the industry.
May saw the publication of Hartnett’s first book, ‘Angela Hartnett’s Cucina, Three Generations of Italian Family Cooking’, published by Ebury, which soared to the top of the UK book charts. The book features a unique collection of family recipes that Hartnett has developed over the years and focuses on the food that she grew up with – the classic dishes that she learned from her Italian grandmother that celebrate the tastes and textures of Italian cooking.
In August, Hartnett’s first television project ‘Kitchen Criminals’ aired on BBC2 to top viewing figures. The programme followed Hartnett and John Burton Race attempting to turn ‘no hope’ cooks into chefs deserving of a Michelin star.
2008 saw the launch of two exciting projects for Angela Hartnett. In August, she opened Murano, a fine-dining Italian restaurant in the heart of London’s Mayfair. Serving modern cuisine with an Italian accent, Murano has recently been awarded a Michelin star in the 2009 guide and also won Best Newcomer in the Harden’s London Restaurant Guide 2010.
Situated on the edge of London’s Regents Park, York & Albany opened in September 2008. The nineteenth century coaching inn has been transformed into a dining room with bar, accompanying delicatessen and guest accommodation. York & Albany offers a home-from-home ambience and exceptional personal service in surroundings that capture the grace and elegance of the high regency period. Hartnett oversees both the restaurant dining and the delicatessen alongside Head Chef, Colin Buchan.
In July 2009, Hartnett was the first woman to be awarded the coveted Chef of the Year at the Cateys Awards.
Hartnett also appears regularly as a guest chef on ITV’s ‘This Morning’.
